Beyond The Surfaces
Redefining Identities with Digital Organic and New Media
The practice-led research “Beyond The Surfaces” investigates the role of digital organic materials and virtual identities in redefining self-expression within virtual environments. Originating from Mengzhi’s studies at the Royal College of Art, UK, it explores how advanced media and interaction technologies can transform traditional models of identity in digital spaces. This study tries to emphasise the dynamic dialogue between digital assets and virtual identity construction, utilising immersive new media like VR and spatial computing to challenge conventional interaction paradigms. As an ongoing research project, methodologically, the project would integrate quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, supported by public engagements and ethical data practices. This research aims to enhance the integration of digital art with technology, fostering a deeper understanding of technology’s impact on identity expression. It seeks to contribute to social sciences by examining the cultural and societal implications of digital identities, highlighting the transformative potential of digital environments in personal and collective identity formation.
