About

Yutong Chai is a digital artist from China. In her practice, she uses 3D models, virtual scenes and moving images to explore diverse narratives. She focuses on the relationship between individuals and society environment, utilizing different media to create multisensory art experiences.

Her recent project Submerge淹没 (2024) is a digital video based on the White Crane Ridge cultural site, the project focuses on the hidden impacts caused by large-scale human activities changing the original ecological environment. It shows the intuitive environmental changes of White Crane Ridge from an ancient cultural and ecological symbol to being submerged and the surrounding environment being affected during modernization, while also exploring the broader ecological and social issues behind it. The project encourages the public to pay attention not only to the environmental changes directly related to it, but also to those hidden issues that seem to have no significant relevance at the moment but have a far-reaching impact on the future.
