About
Jinli Xu(Jinnie) is from China. She is interested in reuse strategies for balancing historic preservation and modernisation in urban design, with a focus on how narrative design can inspire a collective emotional resonance and sense of belonging. Currently studying for a Masters in Urban Design at the Royal College of Art (RCA) and joining the Border Environments Studio, my fellow studio members and I explore the relationship between ‘migrant mobility’ and the socio-political context of the Straits.
IRP-100km water Circle
This project revitalizes abandoned warehouses along the canals of Calais and Dunkirk to promote the co-existence of migrants group and local community. By developing a new ferry route along the canal, we reanimate these historically significant transport routes. We aim to transform these warehouses into hubs for both migrants and local communities. The design strategy of the project combines modern urban design theory and sustainable development concepts to find the best solution between preserving historical heritage and promoting modern development.
