About

Yiwen’s work explores different materials and approaches. Through print, painting and Sculpture, Yiwen explores ephemeral and fleeting moments and encounters with an introspective approach to subjectivity of her recollections. Whether people, places or nature, the organic shapes flow in subtle compositions where the enigmatic correlates with the personal and colour functions and melts into a state between emotion and atmosphere, memories and presence. She encapsulates the enduring emotions into petite vessels, beckoning the audience to partake in those ephemeral moments.

A momentum was established through material exploration in Yiwen’s work. She collects many different materials, reflecting on the language and background of these materials to incorporate them into her pieces. The act of collecting allows her to engage with her environment and pay homage to her surroundings. She expresses her appreciation and connection to these materials and uses them to develop her creative expression.

In Yiwen’s oil paintings, there is a strong sense of tenderness. She aims to invite the viewer into a space that transcends reality through this softness, and she wants to highlight a resilient core within the tenderness, depicting moments that may seem fragile but are also profound. Her recent work, “Once in a Blue Moon,” explores themes of love and isolation. It takes on a self-confessional form, portraying the deep solitude experienced when fixating on intimate connections. The piece seeks to chronicle a rush of immediate emotions—instances that are both complete and incomplete, akin to a fleeting whisper before it disappears. She employs soft brushstrokes to create organic structures. These are moments of convergence and divergence, moments of radiance.
