Samah Rafiq

Painting (MA)

About

Samah Rafiq (b. 2000), is a London born and based Artist. She completed her Undergraduate degree at Camberwell College of Arts, graduating in 2022 with a First Class BA in Fine Art: Painting. Having completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art (2024), supported by the Vice-Chancellor’s Achievement Scholarship, Samah is now based and continuing her practice in Hackney.

Samah draws her inspiration from all kinds of visual media, ranging from films and advertisements to packaging and shop store fronts. Reframing the very imagery of invitations to consume, Samah’s practice subverts symbols of sacrament, consumption and desire- purporting a fresh discourse on their structures.

A few of Samah’s recent exhibitions have been with Southwark Park Galleries (‘We’re Watching You’, February 2022), Anderson Contemporary (‘International Women’s Day’, March 2023) UNIT London (‘Serving Gluttony’, April-May 2024), and the Alchemy Experiment in Glasgow (‘Curtains’, May 2024), RCA Graduate Showcase (June, 2024), and Open205 Deptford (OPEN:WIDE, July 2024). Her work was also published in the Fourth Edition ‘Curtains’ Artist Publication.
