About

My practise is focused around cultural-political critical writing: mixing and matching theory with reality and pop culture with power dynamics. I combine my more academic interests (socialist politics and film history), exacerbated by a BA in History and Politics, with creative writing techniques, in order to produce work that is accessible, interesting and that overtly says something about the world in which we live. I’m fascinated by the things underneath what we take for granted: the machinations of places and objects that often go unnoticed but which have vast power. Born and raised in London, I often use this lens to write about my love and my struggles with my home city.

This all manifests in my writing through a variety of formats and genres. Detailed in this profile is an excerpt from my Independent Research Project for my MA, which in itself is an extract of a much larger project about film and class: a book/collection of essays about how fictive film, as a tool wielded selectively and effectively, can hasten consciousness of injustice, and create an impetus in its viewers for class revolution in the 21st century (specifically in the UK). However, I’ve also utilised experimental fiction as a jumping point for similar endeavours, with a monologue about consumption, materialism and taste I wrote recently being published in a zine by Carrion Press.

‘So what’s the point?’ is a phrase which repeats often in my writing. I am always asking such questions: the ‘whys’ of decisions, the thought processes behind them, and the clarity or lack thereof they bring. There is power in what you choose to conceal and what you choose to show, and I write to expose both (and have some fun while doing so).
