About

I am Kaiyan Rui, a visual communication artist living in Shanghai. My work focuses on graphic design and video, and is inspired by a rethinking of the development of various spaces in contemporary society, and the connection between memory and the individual

My project aims to discuss the connection between the recollection of spatial memories and emotional bonds and identity. I also want to explore how space captures and triggers memories that can have a long-lasting impact on an individual’s development and thinking.

As an architectural space, “residence” maps an individual’s physical, mental, or emotional space. Our memories are most vivid when we experience an event in a certain place. But what happens when we leave that place, or when that place ceases to exist? Explore the function of spatial memory by creating an archive of ‘places of residence’. The project resonates with life experiences through the characterization and perception-shaping functions of places, spaces, and objects. Through this theme, I explored archival forms to reconstruct remembered spaces.
