About

My name is Yingting Xia. I am a social interaction textile artist, dedicated to revealing and addressing the complex emotions and psychological phenomena in contemporary society through my work. Exploring and innovating with materials is my pursuit. I use weaving, dyeing, and other textile techniques to create visually impactful and emotionally deep pieces. My aim is to guide the audience to reflect on and understand their emotions and identity in the digital age. Through my art, I hope to promote deeper social understanding and emotional resonance.

In the “Hidden Layers-The Reflective Paradox” project, weaving is used to showcase different layers, aiming to explore the phenomenon of social media comparison syndrome. The project delves into the contrast between authenticity and falsehood on social media, the contradiction between passive and active user engagement, and the feeling of getting lost in a cycle of emotions. These aspects will be visually represented through a three-dimensional maze-like structure created using a combination of yarn and glass. By incorporating elements of yarn and glass, the project will illustrate the impact of big data and algorithm biases on users, sparking a desire for active exploration. Inspired by architectural structures, the project utilizes a honeycomb design as its centerpiece to create a multi-layered visual effect, prompting viewers to contemplate the relationship between reality and idealism.
