Curating Contemporary Art (MA)

"Bodies of Knowledge" installation view, created by artists Bint Mbareh and Barney Pau. Exhibited at the RCA Graduate Show 2024. “Bodies of Knowledge” foregrounds the embodied knowledge that exists beyond, and in spite of, traditionally eurocentric ways of knowing. The practices of BINT MBAREH and BARNEY PAU converge in an installation that invites each participating body to vocalise what it knows, manifesting its knowledge of ritual, oral history and language into shared space. An interactive moment of exchange allows the embodied to assert its own validity, making way for an individualised experience of knowledge beyond conventional boundaries.

Assisted Julia Smith in building and styling for Redeye Screenings (2023). The event encompassed performances, screenings, and an exhibition.

"Res Publica". Final project for my BA Interior Design course at Chelsea College of Art (UAL). The project proposed practical installations/data visualization hubs which offer shelter as well as an artistic interpretation of live traffic and population density/movement. It would use what is traditionally observed as surveillance technologies (WiFi location tracking, surveillance cameras, etc.) and transform this into information available to the public to reclaim.

About

I am a creative practitioner, curator, and researcher, originally from Zagreb, Croatia, now based in London. Partly influenced by Balkan culture of conviviality and event-based artistic programming, I dedicate my practice to choreographing meaningful encounters, intersecting disciplines, and blurring boundaries between participant, practitioner, and audience.

Public programming and performative (curatorial) practices, therefore, became important research tools for questioning, discussing, and rearticulating participation. Informed also by a long personal background in, and passion for, dance, I believe in durational, process-driven collaborations as generative methodology for honing curiosity and care, thereby dehierarchizing knowledge.

Finding a space for, to put it as broadly as possible, people of with different knowledges, histories, and interests to move, explore, discuss, learn, experiment, and intersect with each other as well as the space they find themselves in, is what drives me.

Graduate Project

The project “Bodies of Knowledge” , part of the RCA 2024 Graduate Degree Show, delves into questions of agency and the nature of knowledge production. It uses embodied knowledge and the body as an immeasurable vessel for histories, knowledges, culture, intuition, and experience, to examine and disrupt eurocentric and institutional systems of value.
