About
Ziyan Zhang is a 3D digital artist with a MA degree in Fashion from the Royal College of Art. She hails from the southeast coast of China and incorporates Hokkien cultural backgrounds into her work. Her art reflects on self-identity and feminism in the digital age, using digital forms to explore the contradictions and unity between societal development and human individuals. Her work blends existentialist philosophy with a rich subcultural visual aesthetic, creating a strong yet dreamy visual system. For Ziyan, the virtual world serves as a free and safe haven, where she creates a utopia distinct from the real world through films, animations, and games.
Her MA Project “Cuo” is an artistic game.”Cuo” represents a room in English. This project is a feminist narrative game set against the backdrop of Hokkien culture. It blends ethnic elements with digital art, employing cybersymbolism and liminal space aesthetics to create a lost dreamscape of memory. Through its storyline, it narrates the struggles of women in marginalized regions, showcasing the awakening of female consciousness and the conflict between self-awareness and traditional values, between personal identity, family, and faith. The game encourages women to find their strength in the new era through a digital medium.
