Roisin Jones
About
Roisin Jones is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher, whose practice is rooted in photography, sculpture, poetry, and performance. Through her research, she has developed a rich body of practice ruminating upon diasporic Caribbean identity, focusing on the recovery and repair of experience (personal, familial, intergenerational, socio-cultural), specifically through creative approaches to the archive. Jones’ work is interstitial and situated fundamentally between contexts, disciplines, discourses, and media. In the vast tapestry of contemporary art, her pieces serve as threads, connecting forgotten histories, resilience, and the intricate dance of identity.
“I invite audiences into spaces of reflection, healing, and profound connection, aiming to elevate the often marginalised stories that shape our world. Deeply influenced by the legacies of Afro-futurism, Black feminist ideologies, and intersectionality, my art forms a bridge, connecting the wisdom of luminaries such as Tina Campt, Patricia Hill Collins, bell hooks, and Audre Lorde to today’s contemporary dialogues.”
Roisin Jones (b. 1994) is a London-based interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersections of performance, sculpture, media, and identity. Currently, she has completed a Master of Research (MRes) at the Royal College of Art (2024), London, following the completion of a Master of Art (MA) in Contemporary Art Practice (2023) and a Graduate Diploma in Art and Design (2022), both from the Royal College of Art. Her academic background is further enriched by a BA/BSc in Media, Culture, and Identity with Film from the University of Roehampton, UK, and the University of Nebraska, Omaha, USA.
Jones’s artistic practice has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the UK. Her solo exhibitions include Ode to Temperance at MEADOW GALLERY Enclave Project, Resilience at Noho Studios London (2022), and Temple of the Spider at the Royal College of Art, all in London. Her group exhibitions have spanned diverse venues, such as, What No Fear Looks Like at Shoreditch Arts Club, and Minor Attractions at Cornershop/STUDIOCHAPPLE during Frieze Week. In addition to her exhibitions, Jones has actively engaged in performance and screenings, including her notable work in Beyond Surface – Tactile Presence during Tate Lates at Tate Modern and NO SOLID GROUND at CAP CINEMA in London’s Prince Charles Theatre. Her performances, such as Ode to Temperance CHORUS at MEADOW GALLERY, reflect her deep engagement with themes of resilience, memory, and identity.
Jones’s artistic endeavours have been recognised with multiple project grants, awarded in 2020 and 2022. Most recently, she was awarded first place in the ‘HIGH Prize’ for her graduate work at the MRes Graduate Show. Her work has also attracted attention in major publications, with features in The New York Times and Sugarcane. In 2024, she will further develop her practice during a residency at The Mill in Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon, France.
