About

I’m Yuying Jiang, an illustrator from Shanghai, China, also involved in collage art, deconstruction, and specialising in a range of frame-by-frame animations, stop-motion animations, and picture books.

In 2022 I created a collection of collectivist related illustrations, A motley crew(2022), which involved a series of web and pop up mobile page designs, and was my first cross-media work related to group consciousness and its psycho-social aspects.
Following this, in early 2023 I created Confession(2023)and Swallow(2023), critical works on the concepts of parent-child relationships and duck-breeding education, with the aim of stimulating social reflection on the modes of education and parent-child communication.

Social phenomena and the humanities have always fascinated me, which is why I have chosen Brick by Brick(2024) as my final work title
during the irreplaceable period of study at the Royal College of Art.This work carries memories of my childhood and the confusion of rediscovering my identity after leaving the familial environment. It is a continuous reflection on my gains and losses. During the process I combined techniques such as black and white contrast, glitch art, defocus, overexposure, cropping, and collage, I aim to highlight the parts of childhood memories that have been abandoned by time and subjective consciousness.Through the deconstruction and reconstruction of old photos, I hope to recover some childhood details, like an old object or a specific emotion, and pray to recreate a simple moment from childhood. By using a subtle approach to narrate childhood, this work serves as my personal “autobiography,” expressing the nature of humanity and the passage of time. However, this is not just a personal “autobiography,” but also the “autobiography” of each viewer.
