Anushka Khemka

Digital Direction (MA)

About

Anushka is an interdisciplinary artist and designer whose work spans various mediums and methods. Her recent practice of multi-sensory design centres on the potential of the human experience and addresses concerns about limited sensory participation. In a world where ocularcentrism often makes way for modern alienation, Anushka deliberately uses the audiovisual as a source of transcendence to creatively awaken the senses. Her work has been exhibited at events and spaces including Outernet in London and the IRCAM Forum 2024 in Paris.

She is currently pursuing an MA in Digital Direction at the Royal College of Art where she is particularly exploring how immersive technologies can bring forth human and more-than-human perspectives through relevant storytelling. Her projects Will We Disappear in the Cover of the Sky? (2024) and The Secret Garden (2024) aim to spark an urgent conversation about the current landscape of avian ecology in the UK by investigating how another critter experiences its perceptual world. Another project Meet Me At Our Spot (2023) confronts cultural misconceptions by incorporating personal narratives into a video game. Additionally, she has participated in the RCA X Snap Inc. programme this year where she is exploring how augmented reality can unravel natural spaces by moving through them in unexpected ways.

Anushka completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, earning a BFA in both Industrial Design and Photography. Her professional engagements include working with furniture design and creative production studios where her practice evolved from tangible forms to digital realms. She later moved to London to complete a Graduate Diploma in Graphic Design from Chelsea College of Arts (UAL) which eventually led to her postgraduate studies.

As a communication practitioner, Anushka continues to seek meaningful ways to tell stories.
