About

Based on a planned offshore wind farm in the eastern part of the Greek island of Crete, the project explores the potential changes in the soundscape brought about by the current utilisation of marine wind energy. In this context, we analyse bluedeal’s assessment, which is limited by the fact that it only evaluates offshore wind farms from a human point of view. The report analyses the impacts of offshore wind farms on fisheries, tourism and human visual aesthetics, while the impacts on the habitats of other species are largely unmentioned. In this regard, we have chosen to analyse the impacts of offshore wind farms on marine organisms through changes in the acoustic landscape from the perspective of the sound-sensitive amphibian, the sea turtle. At the end of the project, we will consolidate the research and visualise it in the same way as bluedeal, in order to illustrate in a contrasting way, and in the most intuitive way, what is missing in the current assessment reports, namely the attention to the acoustic environment in which marine organisms live.
