About

Dina Jin Bae (@dinajinbae)Β is a London-based artist from South Korea, demonstrating an understanding of colours, glitters, and textures with the development of over 200 beauty cosmetics. In her paintings and installations, she observes and questions the small gestures made in daily life using colour pigments, oil, wax, and expired makeup products.

β€œIn the Korean language, the word for makeup is Hwa-jang ν™”μž₯, which also means cremation. I find makeup symbolises both self-loss and self-discovery. The ritual of daily life reveals hidden meanings and emotions. Every gesture or action has its own story to tell and creates a beautiful tapestry of sensations.”

Sensory interactions with objects that serve as extensions of the body or have specific roles can lead to contemplation beyond ownership and experience. She explores reflections on the history of manufacturing, societal structures, the tangible and intangible, and energies and karmas that seem to transcend time and space.

She will graduate with an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2024 and holds a BA in French Language and Literature from Yonsei University in 2012.
