About

Lianjiang Zhu 连江(b.1997, Zhejiang) is a multimedia artist based in London and China. He received his BFA in Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts Bologna (2021), and MA in Print at the Royal College of Art (2024).

Lianjiang utilizes moving image and performance media to explore themes of identity, projection, fantasy, power structures, fictive realities, and heritage within digital landscapes, reflecting the uncertainties of digital processes and the lack of authenticity and human subjectivity. His practice uses the body as a metaphor, continuously replicating, multiplying, and imitating through an unstable process of deconstruction and reassembly, revealing the ever-increasing invisible surveillance forces behind social, political, and technological advancements. His works often employ the imagery of anonymity, masks, invisibility and disappearance, and self-performance, using humor to question and explore the possibilities of reconstructing narratives. They record the implicit scrutiny and violence, transformation and acceptance of transformation, disorder, and the loss in the process of individuals seeking freedom.

His recent exhibitions include: “NOW Showing“, The Bomb Factory Art Foundation, London, UK (2024); “Destructive Power of War in the Arts”, The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK (2024); Out of thin air, Southwark Park Galleries, London, UK (2024); “JOMO—Joy of missing out”, Mom Art Space, Hamburg, Germany (2023); “HOTPOT”, Galerie KUB, Leipzig, Germany (2023). He has been shortlisted for the Kinomural competition, Wroclaw, Poland (2024).
