SUNI MULLEN
About
SUNI MULLEN is a contemporary, ultra-postmodern, multidisciplinary artist working towards liberating her mind from the shackles of white mythic projections while simultaneously utilizing these projections as a playground: to spook- to think- to inquire- to consider.
MULLEN challenges the ways people receive and convey information, asserting her right to tell her story in her own way. She sets her own rules, rebelling against proposed static norms, and makes room for innovative ideas, experimental thoughts, and radical practices. SUNI extends her strategies to communities globally, connecting virtually, spiritually, emotionally, culturally, and in human form.
She extends ode to the mediums that best articulate her ideas, which are not confined to the ceilings of Western subjugations. Activating her Instagram as a space to iterate proofs of concept, SUNI often designs her ideas digitally, combining three-dimensional works such as paintings, photographs, architecture, and sculptures with in-app edits to showcase possibilities. This serves as a simple yet effective rollout for ideas and sketches to be further developed in the future with even more concrete resources.
Raised in Mid-City Los Angeles, SUNI earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting, from Otis College of Art & Design and is currently pursuing further investigations at the Royal College of Art in London, where she will earn her Master’s in Contemporary Art Practices Summer 2024.
SUNI intends to earn her PhD and continue to conduct lexical analyses primarily focused on Black American communications and its ability to consistently extend outside of Euro-Western english projected bounds.
