About

Sam D’Cruze is a socially engaged artist with a unique, multidisciplinary approach. Her practice blends text, embroidery, painting and sculpture. Exploring the dynamic energy of painting and the meticulous practice of embroidery, her use of tambour beading adds a three-dimensional effect.

D’Cruze is known for her textile work and for facilitating workshops within the addiction and recovery community and public participation projects.

Since the death of her alcohol-dependent father, D’Cruze has dedicated her work to opening up the conversation surrounding addiction and recovery and has founded ‘Child Of Project’, a Community Interest Company that explores the relationship between creativity and addiction and supports those who have felt the impact.

D’Cruze takes a nonjudgmental approach in her work. She taps into real-life experiences to portray how alcohol and drugs can make you feel, both good and bad, creating a space where everyone’s experiences are accepted and understood.

Upon completing a Master of Research in Fine Art & Humanities, D’Cruze’s sculpture and portrait, ‘Sasha’, was selected to be part of Homelessness|Reframed, an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery organised by Homewards, a Royal Foundation initiative dedicated to addressing homelessness. D’Cruze was further recognised when Hertfordshire County Council awarded three years of funding and ‘Grass Roots’ business development support to establish a mentorship program for individuals transitioning from rehabilitation to a health recovery.
