About
I am Yuhe Luo, a textile designer, and I am researching and developing how to show and transmit traditional culture through fabrics. I support the concept of environmental protection and sustainable development, so I use biological fabrics. At the same time, I try to interact textile with art installations and human wear, so that fabrics can be diversified.
The project explores ancient Chinese marriage customs. The “Ten Li Red betrothal gift” looks grand, but it actually represents marriage as an exchange of benefits in a patriarchal society. Thus, the seemingly grand red dowry procession also hints at the bride’s potential sadness and bondage. At the same time, it also reflects the bondage and inequality of marriage for women in today’s society. The pattern in the design process comes from the bride’s crown and wedding dress. This concept is elaborated by using the biological fabric representing red love to die out while the soft metal beads representing interests will last forever. The concept device combining acrylic dyeing and biological fabric is made by referring to the structure of the “lock” on the roof of the wedding sedan chair.
The design of my project is applied to wedding decorations, which are usually disposable paper and plastic, while my design uses leathery texture biological fabric, which can degrade naturally without producing pollution, and it can be used as home decorations or accessories for a long time.
