About

Daisy Jingyi Ye is an emerging Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in London. She recently completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art and received an BFA in Fiber with distinction at Alberta University of the Arts in 2022. As a Chinese immigrant living in the West, Daisy always strives to reunite the inside with the outside. Her work delves into the Anthropocene phenomena on the one hand and the biomorphic world of ‘things’ on the other. This place, between gestural abstraction and the mutational entanglement of human-non-human relations, provides a space for Daisy to work intuitively and act spontaneously in a state of imminent engagement with the ecological lens.

Her creative process starts with site investigation, manifesting a sense of loss unpacked through material investigation and intuitive painting. She is passionate about searching for organic mind sources and living materials corresponding to life. Daisy practices walking as a ritual, searching for holistic channels to reunite the body and mind to a rhythm synchronized with her surroundings. Her work resonates with those struggling with aging while striving to find meaning and life purpose, offering a unique perspective on this universal theme that connects with people from all walks of life.

Daisy’s most recent project is an exploration of the possibility of painting with biomaterials like plant dyes. The fading feature in her work not only depicts the shape of cyclical time and the nature of ephemeral life but also serves as a constant reminder of the maker’s crucial role in the sustainability of the environment.
