Chelsea Tijerina
About
Chelsea is an American artist from Los Angeles, California where she worked as an advertising creative for several years. Her work has been recognized in various publications such as AdWeek and Ads of The World and The Drum. She’s touched recognizable brands like Vans, General Mills and Instagram. In 2022, she led the artistic vision for Lucky Charms cereal. Earning a spotlight for “Ad of The Month” through The Drum.
In 2023, she began an MA in Painting at Royal College of Art in London where she further developed her practice. She works with mass information in the form of legal documents, news articles, mediated images and advertising photography. Her work seeks to confront tension between the visible and visibly hidden. “Lacerations”, or rips and tears, of the surface play an important role in her current work. It symbolizes a yearning or a desire to acknowledge what lingers behind the images we see. It is a rebellion against face value. She peels back layers to reveal painterly marks that convey a feeling or emotion. An energetic signature is embedded in each brush stroke transcending the conversation beyond what an image can capture. In a world saturated with images and instant gratification, her work is an invitation to re-calibrate our role as a viewer. Taking in a perception that engages beyond a surface.
She’s currently based in the U.K. where she’s exhibited in group shows between Brighton and London.
