About
Concept:
“Symbiosis” draws inspiration from urban moss growth, observed while waiting for a bus. The sight of moss thriving on nearby walls and tree bark sparked curiosity. Mosses, emerging from crevices, symbolize the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature. This project aims to explore the interconnectedness and mutual dependence between humans and moss, breaking down the boundaries between urban environments and natural ecosystems.
Methods of Practice:
The project’s methodology involves a systematic research process. Initially, I captured numerous images of lichens growing on rocks, tree bark, and pavement crevices. These photographs, along with online sources, guided the project’s direction. Using irregular textures found in materials like packaging paper, I replicated the organic textures observed in the images. Employing mark-making techniques, I derived inspiration from different perspectives, using textured items like crumpled foil and cardboard to create mark-making. These inspirations were then translated into knitted patterns using knitting needles, crochet hooks, and hand weaving techniques. Additionally, bio-fabrics were created by combining artificial and biological materials to express the theme of symbiosis between humans and nature.
Tools and Materials:
The project utilizes knitting needles, crochet hooks, and hand weaving equipment. Materials include yarns and plant fibers. The color palette consists of deep brown, stone gray, light blue, nude, moss green, olive green, dark green, grass green, and sunny yellow.
Context:
The project will combine knitting techniques and crochet techniques with hand weaving techniques and bio-fabrics to produce two elaborate garments in school workshops and home studios. These creations target fashion enthusiasts and eco-conscious fashionistas. Other Practitioners: Eco-fashion bloggers and social media influencers.
