Yahan Chen
About
Chen completed her undergraduate studies in Comprehensive Painting at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts from 2018 to 2022, earning the academy’s scholarship each year. She pursued her master’s degree in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art from 2023 to 2024, where she also served as the department representative.
AS an artist with ADHD, navigates a constantly evolving landscape of creative forms. Her work spans performance art, installation art, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and VR—any medium that serves as a conduit for her expression. The pandemic, with its proximity to mortality, profoundly shaped her artistic vision, leading her to explore themes deeply rooted in the human condition: the soul, intuition, death, dreams, family, and her identity as a woman.
Chen’s art is a journey of self-discovery and societal reflection. She delves into the power of the soul and the potential within, challenging the boundaries of conventional thought and intentionality in art. By doing so, she aims to strip away the layers of preconceived notions, allowing her creations to emerge from a place of pure intuition.
On a societal level, Chen’s work speaks to the collective human experience. Her exploration of life, death, and identity invites viewers to confront their own realities and subconscious. Through her art, Chen hopes to foster a deeper understanding of our shared humanity, encouraging a return to authenticity in a world often dominated by superficiality. Her intuitive approach seeks to inspire others to embrace their true selves and find strength in their individuality.
