Jelena Zivkovic (b. 2000) is a London-based artist graduating with an MA in Painting from Royal College of Art. She completed her BA in Illustration at Falmouth University and has exhibited her work internationally in Serbia, the UAE and the UK.
Jelena’s paintings are shrines to an intimacy of the domestic and the relationships that lie within it. Gesso is used to suspend household fabrics onto a wall inviting the viewer to consider the smaller, often overlooked moments in everyday life.
The configurations of the fabric fragments depend on the wall they will become a part of; they are ever-changing. The objects are an intuitive and sensitive response to edge, colour, texture and surface made of the artist’s personal items and materials borrowed from her life. Sometimes the fabrics are embellished with drawn or painted elements used as a way to explore the artist’s non-memories and ghosts of images originating from her past.
