About

It is not about extracting or extraction from the planet, but about remembering that we are in relationship with it. (Bingham, 2024)

Caroleena Bingham was born in Suva, Fiji (1984).

As a Fijian researcher, Caroleena critically analyses the possibilities of building new systems of infrastructures and in making, incorporating indigenous Fijian knowledges and methodologies with contemporary technologies.

Responding consciously through dialogue and active participation, her work and processes are neither exploitative nor extractive to her culture.  Interwoven models of decolonising, safeguarding, and ethical considerations are embedded in the ethos of her research.  She is intentionally bridging worlds with care.

Caroleena’s anthropological and auto-ethnographic approaches are demonstrated through storytelling in the forms of:

photographs

moving images

informal/formal interviews

hands-on participatory engagement

observation

Steering away from the conventional spaces of studios and workshops, her practices are developed out in the field.

Caroleena currently works between Fiji, New York, and the UK.
