Architecture (MA)

About

Grace is a designer from Manchester where she completed her undergraduate degree at the Manchester School of Architecture. Since then, she has worked at Architype, a leading Passivhaus practice, as an architectural assistant alongside her studies.

Grace’s work explores the temporal nature of architecture, emphasizing the importance of temporality alongside spatiality. She prioritizes the relationships between people, communities, and everyday life with the built environment. At the RCA, in ADS 4, Grace designed “The Central Hill Running Club” – a proposal to save a South London housing estate from demolition, which has impacted residents’ lives since 2015. The project, featuring a never-ending relay race, aims to build an infrastructure of care and liberate residents from the techno-deterministic cycles that have defined their precarious living conditions. Through protest and community engagement, the project suggests that the estate’s challenges are temporal rather than spatial and can be addressed through time-based urban strategies instead of demolition.
