About
Zone Zero
This project proposes a redeployment of the Special Economic Zone to create a space for progressive change in the UK. By remapping the inherently neoliberal framework of the SEZ, Zone Zero navigates the roadblocks embedded within our political system to push for environmental and progressive reform. Fighting the climate crisis on a large enough scale will take a huge commitment at a political level. Our current system lacks the adaptability, flexibility and willpower required to make the infrastructural changes necessary to alter our current trajectory.
Introducing a Green Land Value Tax and a Value Extracted Tax (Ex’Tax) will revolutionize the urban landscape within the zone, promoting the development of compact cities, creating numerous jobs, and fostering a circular economy. The zone’s policies pave the way for an environmentally-minded nation, igniting widespread momentum for sustainable practices. Zone Zero encourages growth and economic development but ensures that such progress respects our planet’s boundaries.
