Yonghun Kim is multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and designer specializing in Digital Media through projection mapping. Yonghun completed an undergraduate degree at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where his foundation in visual arts began. Seeking to expand his artistic trajectory within an urban context, he relocated to London to pursue a postgraduate degree in City Design at the Royal College of Art.

Yonghun’s work is deeply influenced by a commitment to exploring and representing the lives and cultures of marginalized urban communities, including refugees and immigrants. Through his art approach, Yonghun aims to highlight the unique cultural, artistic, and historical narratives that these communities contribute to the fabric of the city. This dedication stems from his belief that the complex culture of a city makes it more diverse and sustainable.

A firm believer in the architectural approach to art, Yonghun integrates the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage into his digital media art. Utilizing decolonized methodologies, he strives to create works that honor and perpetuates the stories and traditions of marginalized communities in a respectful and meaningful manner.

Yonghun’s innovative use of immersive digital media transforms urban spaces, creating immersive experiences that engage audiences in new ways. His art not only beautifies but also challenges viewers to consider the socio-cultural dynamics at play within city environments. Through this blend of technology, heritage, and community focus, Yonghun continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the multifaceted urban landscape.
