Environmental Architecture (MA)

About

I am a student of Environmental Architecture. This year I am doing research studies at RS3 Alentejo Research Unit/Liquid Deserts Studio. In the early part of the year I focused on researching the Olive Garden. At the same time, I created a project about insects and land erosion in the olive grove. In the second semester I decided on an independent study about the use of olive pomace in combination with existing natural materials. I carried out a field trip according to the research direction and then designed the project. My project title is Learning From Taipa. Here is the brief. Nowadays, clay resources are becoming increasingly scarce due to over-exploitation of clay from the soil for construction. We need to find other environmentally friendly resources to replace clay insufficient quantities. Based on the current research, olive pomace ash can be added to the bricks instead of clay. This project proposes to build a rammed earth building using an olive pomace ash some and clay mix, The construction process is similar to the original rammed earth construction process. l design an outside reading space as well as a workshop here. The walls and furniture are made of a new material made of rammed earth combined with olive pomace ash.
Also during the year I created two publications. One was about pollution in the Thames and the other I strolled the Thames at dusk. They were both documented through photography. They are also about telling a complete story through the embodiment of the present. Also in the AcrossRCA class I worked with other service design, product design, and visual communication design students to research invasive plants. Combining invasive plants with paper. It is also an idea for my research in the studio.
I’m better at photography. Also like to document through photography and then combine multiple images to tell some story. I am also interested in materials. I hope to produce new and more environmentally friendly materials by reusing waste materials. In the future, I will continue to study my current project and discover more possibilities.
