Based on a planned offshore wind farm in the eastern part of the Greek island of Crete, the project explores the potential changes in the soundscape brought about by the current utilisation of marine wind energy. In this context, we analyse bluedeal’s assessment, which is limited by the fact that it only evaluates offshore wind farms from a human point of view. The report analyses the impacts of offshore wind farms on fisheries, tourism and human visual aesthetics, while the impacts on the habitats of other species are largely unmentioned. In this regard, we have chosen to analyse the impacts of offshore wind farms on marine organisms through changes in the acoustic landscape from the perspective of the sound-sensitive amphibian, the sea turtle.
