About
My name is Xinchen Li. In my studio projects, I have been investigating the link between sound in ecological balance, where sound influences the populations and behaviour of organisms, reflecting changes in environmental conditions. My work also reflects my reflections on the environment and explores the significance of acoustic interventions in environmental aspects.
My project emphasises the importance of sound in understanding and protecting the environment. The aim is to document the environmental soundscape of the Pisan Dam in Portugal prior to its construction by carrying out a listening tour, to reveal the impact of the dam’s construction on the local ecosystem, particularly bat species, by creating an acoustic archive, and to call on ecologically concerned members of the public and stakeholders to protect bat colonies and other animal habitats around the reservoir.
