Zhenyu Zhang
About
My name is Zhang Zhenyu. My undergraduate Bachelor’s degree is in Visual Communication, and my postgraduate study is in Environmental Architecture.
First of all, interdisciplinary study is a big challenge for me, while I think all design-related disciplines, whether it’s the relationship between images or the relationship between space and human beings, have something in common. What designers have to do is turn something abstract into something concrete through concrete design forms by understanding the relationship between images and space. Therefore, I believe that I should not be bound by a certain discipline and that different specializations can inspire the “expression” of my work.
My group members and I created a “Visual Interactive Tool” during our studies at RCA, and we aimed to do more than just provide viewers with an immersive journey to the sea turtles.
Through our interactive tools, we wanted to raise awareness of the plight of marine life in the evolution of mankind. From this, a more comprehensive assessment of the environmental impacts of the planned offshore wind turbines in eastern Crete, Greece, especially the soundscape environmental impacts on marine life, to a change in the existing assessment that is primarily from a human perspective and ignores the habitats of other species.
The study and visualization of the soundscape impacts of offshore wind farms on marine life will draw more attention to the conservation of marine life and, through the results of this project, will help local marine conservation organizations to engage in dialogue with the government and contribute to the improvement of the environmental assessment methodology for a more comprehensive and scientific response to the ecological impacts of offshore wind farms.
