Amarine Dondey is a passionate designer from France who holds a Master’s degree in Interior Design from the Royal College of Art, London and a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture from HEAD Geneva. Her academic journey reflects a deep interest for materiality and sustainability, with a particular focus on reuse.

In 2023, she was awarded the prestigious USM Design Grant for her innovative approach to inclusivity. Her award-winning project, showcased at the Design Days in Geneva, addressed the significant issue of dementia, highlighting her commitment to human-centered design.

Amarine thrives in environments where she can unleash her creativity. She has a passion for experimenting with materials through making and consistently places human experience at the core of her projects. Design and narrative intertwine in her work to create immersive experiences that resonate deeply with audiences, engaging them both visually and emotionally, as demonstrated in her thesis project, The Patchwork Table.

The Patchwork Table is an initiative designed to foster community and connection in Spitalfields. This space encourages individuals to share and celebrate their personal stories through a series of creative workshops and festive dinners. The project aims to preserve the area’s collective memory while strengthening social bonds among its residents.

Inspired by a “social patchwork” made from textile, which captures the social diversity of Spitalfields’ communities, the project delves into the theme of patchwork through the use of various materials. By integrating this concept, she sought to embody the community’s diversity and harmony, demonstrating how disparate elements can blend to form a cohesive and inclusive environment. The project revolves around a large table that spans the space, serving as a central symbol of sharing and exchange.

Amarine approached the materials as living witnesses to the neighborhood’s everyday life. Through making, and experimentation, she explored the essence of the place and translated it into a narrative, bringing the community’s story to life.
