What does “identity” mean? The term “identity” is founded upon the social and personal reflection of an individual or group within their surrounding environment. Concurrently, the definition of the term is shaped by a multitude of factors, including but not limited to historical, cultural, geographical, and event-related elements. These factors exert an influence on the various definitions of identity, as well as on the subject’s perception and behaviour in relation to events.

• From this perspective, design can be conceptualised as a conduit between the subject and the object, or as a tangible manifestation of the subject’s perspective on the objective world. However, a single identity perspective is inherently constrained. Accordingly, as a designer, my design philosophy is to incorporate and accommodate a multiplicity of perspectives and identities, and then translate those perspectives into design.

The project, designated “Fulcrum,” is intended to be transformed into an archive. The project was inspired by the phenomenon of London’s eastward shift, which has fuelled the comprehensive development of the area. However, the project also challenges the original culture of the area. One resident stated, “There will no longer be a community here.” The project therefore builds on this phenomenon and aims to reflect on the challenges to the cultural identity of the former community in the context of the times.
