Bethan Yates

Ceramics & Glass (MA)

About

Bethan is a glass artist currently exploring contemporary techniques whilst studying for her Masters in Ceramics and Glass. She merges traditional skills garnered from her undergraduate degree in Stained Glass at Swansea College of Art, with her newfound contemporary expertise, adding depth and dimension to her flat glass compositions in an aim to bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary glass.

Her current work in cast glass highlights the historical significance of Welsh women’s roles in the professional and domestic spheres. Infusing vibrancy and cultural celebration through colour and pattern. Bethan draws inspiration from traditional Welsh Quilts, reinterpreting their motifs in glass. Her interdisciplinary background influences her process, using paper collage to refine the interplay of shapes and layers before transitioning to three-dimensional glass forms.
