Hwajeong Yeo
About
Hwajeong Yeo (b.1992) is a glaze sculptor born and raised in Seoul and based in London. She studied for a Master’s in Ceramic Engineering at Myongji University and continued her studies with a Master’s in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art.
Hwajeong Yeo is a glaze sculptor and expert specialising in using glazes, traditionally a coating material in ceramics, as the primary medium for her sculptures. Drawing on her background in ceramic engineering, she creates works in the form of glaze sculptures without using clay bodies. Her work explores and highlights materials that are often overlooked, such as glazes, and offers an opportunity to appreciate the unique beauty of each glaze.
Her work encourages a broader dialogue about materiality and value in art, suggesting that the so-called peripheral elements have their own intrinsic worth and can contribute meaningfully to artistic expression. Through her practice, Hwajeong Yeo opens new avenues for artistic exploration, enriching the conversation between art and material, and inspiring a deeper appreciation for the subtle details that compose the fabric of creative works.
Hwajeong Yeo has been supported by ‘The Deputy Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship’ for the MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art.
