Kirsty Andrew

Ceramics & Glass (MA)

About

Kirsty Andrew is a London-based artist with a degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) from Central Saint Martins, a Diploma in Ceramics from City Lit, London, and an MA in Ceramics & Glass from the RCA.

As a multi-disciplinary artist, Kirsty has been increasingly drawn to the versatility of clay. Her work delves into themes of memory, family, and relationships, exploring the tensions between the known and the unknown, the covert and the public, and the natural versus urban environments

Kirsty’s approach is investigatory, researching her subject in depth, thinking through the creative process via methodical, repetitive testing and making. This allows old ideas to resurface and evolve over time. The integration of academic research with physical making and materiality is essential to her practice, ensuring a rich and informed body of work.

Kirsty’s work aims to provoke thought and reflection on the complexities of human experience and the environments we inhabit. Originally from the Lake District, Kirsty now lives in London, and is a trustee for the British Ceramics Biennial.

Work shown at RCA2024:

Behind closed Doors: Curtains characterise the barriers inherent to daily life, the duality of our public and private lives. They conceal whilst revealing glimpses of what lies behind.

Living Narratives: each home is unique despite growing out of the same form. It is the personalities within that define them.
