Liu Kim
About
Liu Kim (born 1995, Seoul, South Korea) mainly work with the physical properties of clay, such as tears and cracks, which are usually considered flaws.
She has been supported by ‘The Deputy Vice Chancellor’s International
Scholarship’ for the MA in Ceramics and Glass at Royal College of Art’s in 2023-2024.
Liu Kim believes that the fundamental nature of art is to seek new meaning beyond existing meanings, and considers clay as the most suitable medium to express this. She creates her works primarily through plaster casting. By innovatively reinterpreting the traditional casting method used in industrial ceramics, which typically produces the same form repeatedly, the artist creates unique surface textures and forms that are distorted and disintegrated.
Her ceramics therefore seek to express the essential properties of clay beyond the traditional industrial use of ceramics.
