Paris Taylor

Contemporary Art Practice (MA)

About

Paris Taylor is an artist with a creative practice that investigates the usage of light and space to encourage spatial awareness using mediums, such as projection, moving image, and photography. Investigating how it can be manipulated to create an illusory event, to sit on the intimacy of experience. In the sense of durational performance, Taylor’s practice varies between the still and moving image, in presenting new manipulated streams of both natural and artificial light.

Looking at the motions of moving image through permeable spaces and mediums, to present the intersections of voids and non-places of time-based materiality. In the rejection of darkness, Taylor challenges our consumption of light in resituating the narrative and gaze of the spectator through various tactile means of the expanded surface. In looking at both the technological apparatus and the architectural environment used, Taylor questions and thinks of the upward relation between the physical and immaterial, in how this extension of space continues inwards. Questioning the liminal space that exists not only in physical form, but in the void of light, machinery, and reality. The dualistic responsibility that the light has and its response to re-mould into new forms seamlessly. In bridging the gap in between the machine, and the imagery in a setting of public intimacy; work that requires an audience of participation.
