Sophie-Louise Pywell

Contemporary Art Practice (MA)

About

Sophie-Louise Pywell is an artist from Cheshire with a BA(Hons): Painting, from Edinburgh College of Art. Sophie-Louise creates work that sits at the intersection between feminism and the occult. Inspired by generational skills of craft and her family’s personal history with sewing, she creates work that reclaims the crafts often seen as domestic or ‘women’s work’, and investigates the healing and mindful nature of sewing practices.

Creating work that is inspired by the experiences of misogyny that women face, Sophie-Louise attempts to create work that connects women, tells the stories often untold, and hears the voice of those who have been silenced.

With one of her most recent pieces exhibited in the Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition 2024, Sophie-Louise has been meeting and connecting with more women and sharing stories, from which she has been working on larger installations that make women feel seen.
