Stephanie Teng
About
Stephanie Teng is a London based multimedia artist with roots from Hong Kong and the United States. Her research interests lie in the intersection between liminal emotional spaces through the investigation of psychology, language, ancient philosophies and rituals in relation to third culture identities, power through vulnerability and ideas of belonging and isolation. By grounding her practice in psychology, her interests stem from the fascinations with the human condition, the collective unconscious and the synchronicities that bind us together. By combining material explorations that encompass photography, video, installation, sculpture, sound and poetry, Teng’s work explores the translation of the untranslatable through the lens of Foucault’s heterotopia.
During her MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art in 2023-2024, she has exhibited at the Camden Art Centre, Tate Late and hARTSlane. Her past work has been exhibited in Art Central Hong Kong with Square Street Gallery, The Contemporary Art Digest (Los Angeles), Art Gate VR. She has performed at Sound Forms at the Hong Kong Art Centre and was commissioned by The New York Times, The Mills Hong Kong, Centre for Heritage Arts and Textile and Vice Asia. She is also an advocate for education and has been a guest lecturer at Hong Kong University’s Master in Art Therapy program, City University School of Creative Media and has hosted two workshops for Today at Apple in Hong Kong and charities such as Caritas.
