Ana Paula Freitas Valle
About
Ana Paula Freitas Valle (b.Brazil, lives and works in London, São Paulo and Miami) is a documentary photographer and environmental art curator.
Ana Paula is an Art Curator specializing in curating environmental art projects. She is committed to socially engaged and ecologically conscious practices. She also believes in the power of art activism to raise awareness and foster new ideas for collective action to improve public and communal conditions. Drawing on her background in journalism and documentary photography, as well as her skills in art curation, her projects involve multidisciplinary artistic practices and programming to disseminate political and ethical dialogues to engage a broader audience and advocate for social and environmental protection through art. Ana Paula’s interests lie in documentary and interactive exhibitions, live and digital models of engagement and exchange, outreach programs, social media events, and mediation materials. These platforms will serve as both a medium of information and an instrument of change, unifying various audiences towards a common goal: environmental conservation.
The climate crisis and ecological degradation have profoundly impacted her personal story. Her family is from Alegrete, a small town in the southern state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, which borders Argentina. For generations, they worked as farmers. Over the past 30 years, she has witnessed the once-fertile part of the Pampa biome turn into a desert, causing poverty and misery in a previously prosperous and developed area. As Ana Paula writes this statement, the region faces its worst climate tragedy ever, with an unprecedented flood that displaced thousands of people and destroyed many communities. Climate emergencies and a sustainable future are shared responsibilities in our contemporary society. The only way to reverse the present situation is to enhance awareness, knowledge, participation, cooperation, and collective action for environmental justice.
