Chaerin Lee
About
𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐞 is a curator and researcher based in South Korea and the UK, deeply invested in exploring cross-cultural encounters within contemporary visual art. She examines contemporary issues that intersect both local and global art scenes through a multidisciplinary approach. Her studies and projects contemplate the marginalization of locality and individuality in the transnational era while celebrating transcultural connections that transcend geographical boundaries. She focuses on often overlooked or transient aspects of the art world, engaging in collective curatorial projects and multidisciplinary artworks. Her particular interest lies in the relationship between spaces and the visual arts, especially installations, sculptures, and site-specific works.
This multidisciplinary approach aims to facilitate dialogues between cultures, artists, artworks, and audiences, bridging gaps across time and space. A key aspect of her work involves addressing the issues of centralization, homogenization, and the erasure of differences within contemporary art. By critically engaging with the potential for cultural uniformity and concentration, she strives to counteract these tendencies.
Her curatorial practice emphasizes a slower, more reflective approach to foster meaningful interactions and dialogues that challenge cultural homogenization. Through this, she aims to create environments where diverse voices and perspectives are highlighted and celebrated, enriching the understanding and appreciation of art while resisting the pressures of cultural standardization.
