Tai-Hsiang Huang (Ted)
About
Tai-Hsiang Huang(Ted) is a researcher and curator from Taipei, Taiwan. He engaged in many roles in his career and held a residency program at Taipei | Treasure Hill Artist Village in 2021. His current research is based on the geopolitical issues of East Asia and the concept of the Global South, emphasising content centred around “topography.”
In his thinking and practice, Huang believes that to truly understand the world, we need to view it as composed of various places, each offering different perspectives. The starting point in his approach is self-positioning, which is understanding and representing the context you come from. “Place” thus becomes the anchor for self-identity and worldview. He sees the relationships between places as a artistic field, referring to both a physical field of existence and a virtual abstract space.
Huang aims to flatten hierarchical structures within institutions and regions, striving towards a decentralized network. He emphasizes deeply understanding the local context and using curating as a method of knowledge production and translation. His practice engages with aesthetics, politics, and ethics, aiming to create meaningful and interconnected insights into the world. Through his work, he critically examines and reflects on issues such as colonialism, urbanization, and globalization.
