About

As a researcher with a background in Graphic Design, my work centres around cultural symbols and ephemera in everyday life. Changing notions of nationhood and its intersection with food and drink culture is central to my research—whether that be a packet of Coronation Chicken crisps or an eighteenth-century posset pot. My dissertation explores how everyday symbols of British national identity manifest in entirely different cultural geographies. By examining the material stories of British-style pubs in postcolonial Malta, I investigate how cultural hybridity plays a crucial role in understanding the entanglements of national identities within drinking cultures.
