Tabitha Blackburn
About
Tabitha is a design historian whose recent research focuses on late seventeenth century City of London craft networks. She wrote her MA dissertation on the cultural patronage practices of overseas City merchants during the free-trade debates of the 1690s, examining the relationship between narratives of empire presented publicly in the Lord Mayors’ shows and privately in painted panelled rooms in City merchants’ houses. Tabitha’s art historical background informs her interest in the sharing of visual forms across media, which she has also explored in her studies of late seventeenth century English chinoiserie. Over the course of her MA, she wrote an article for the V&A blog, spoke in the 2024 V&A/RCA History of Design symposium, and completed a placement in the V&A’s textiles department. Her broader interests encompass architectural, interior, and furniture history.
