About

I am Haiyi Tan, a digital designer and data researcher whose work dedicate to involving data to reveal the shape of the world, life and human identities. My research and practice focus on exploring the numerous possibilities of forms and objects generated by data from nature or our physical body while showcasing the power of the invisibles by applying data visualisation methods.

My work Chaos Trajectory examines how we are subtly influenced and shaped by the unseen forces of technology and information landscape (both physically and digitally) around us. Throughout this project, I recorded the routes and marked critical turning points with longitude, latitude, and altitude. These coordinates were then transformed into the centre of  magnetic fields, turning raw physical movement data into the raw material for the artwork. The resulting trajectories, co-created by both the explorers and the city itself, were then sculpted into 3D shapes by the visualisation of the magnetic field created by the physical movements of the trajectory.

Chaos Trajectory is a collection that utilises data generated from physical movements, reflecting my passion for city exploration and data recording. The collection not only highlights the intricate, multifaceted relationship between humans and their urban environments but also showcases how data visualisation can bring new dimensions to our understanding of movement and space. Chaos Trajectory invites viewers to see the hidden patterns and rhythms of urban drifting, where data of physical movement become the raw material for the pieces, and each piece encapsulates a story told through structure generated by data. Each piece in the collection is a testament to the dynamic interaction between people and places surrounded, offering a fresh perspective on the paths we traverse and the stories they tell.
