About

Ling Yin’s work explores the intersection of art, design, and healing, transforming everyday objects into catalysts for personal introspection and emotional well-being. By integrating kinetic structures, mirrored illusions, and interactive elements, she invite viewers to experience multiple perspectives and possibilities. Drawing inspiration from quantum mechanics and four-dimensional spaces, her creations goal has been to craft pieces that inspire individuals to embrace the healing potential within themselves and the world around them. Each piece is crafted to foster reflection, connection, and transformation, aiming to resonate on a deeply personal level and serve as therapeutic tools for emotional and psychological growth.

In designing the “Vital Space” collection, Ling Yin have structured her work into three distinct series: “Contemplation,” “Interaction,” and “Transformation.” The separation into three distinct but connected series allows for a structured exploration of the healing process, offering a comprehensive narrative that resonates with diverse personal growth experiences. Each series serves as a step in the holistic journey of self-discovery, creating a multifaceted approach that highlights the different stages of healing and provides a versatile framework for engagement. This segmentation enhances the depth and impact of her work, allowing viewers to connect with the pieces on a personal level and encouraging them to reflect on their healing journeys.

The first series, “Contemplation,” emphasises the healing power of introspection and reflection. Objects in this series are designed to foster contemplative practices, offering viewers a “safe space” for personal introspection. These objects invite viewers to engage in focused contemplation by utilising contrasting materials and forms, creating connections between their inner thoughts and external surroundings.

The second series, “Interaction,” builds on the first series and introduces user engagement and behaviour-driven movement elements. Incorporating mechanisms that respond to the user’s actions, such as rotating and interactive features, this series aims to deepen the contemplative experience and foster a sense of active participation in the healing process. Combining metal, spinning structure, and photosensitive pigments, it offers individuals an immersive journey towards healing.

The third series, “Transformation,” explores the infinite possibilities of capturing moments in dimensions. Drawing inspiration from the concept of changing perspectives and embracing differences, this series incorporates objects that reflect the dynamic nature of healing. Utilising materials such as metal, mirrors, and screens, it offers viewers a glimpse into the ever-changing nature of healing and invites individuals to explore new perspectives and embrace the transformative power of change.

Collectively, her series symbolises the process of mental and physical healing, guiding individuals from the recognition of wounds (Contemplation) to taking action (Interaction), and ultimately experiencing growth and transformation (Transformation).

Ling Yin aim to inspire and encourage the audience to transition from Series 3 to Series 1 by presenting her works in this sequential order. The journey begins with recognising the need for healing (Series 3: “Transformation”) and taking active steps towards healing (Series 2: “Interaction”), then eventually invoking a calm and reflective contemplation of the healed state (Series 1: “Contemplation”). The audience will experience a full healing cycle through engaging with the three series.
