About

As a jeweller and illustrator, Meishuo Liu explores the boundaries of jewellery with playfulness as the cornerstone. Seeing herself as a mirror, she captures the intersections between the outside world and her inner emotions, embodying these intersections in her work in the form of jewellery. Handcrafting is her area of expertise, and she is dedicated to expanding the potential applications of natural materials in jewelry design. The integration of traditional craftsmanship with innovative design is essential for her ongoing development.

Human control over time is an illusion; the anxiety it brings is tangible and stems from our obsession with precise timekeeping.

Natural rhythms lead us back to where we belong, prompting us to reflect on how we have grown and developed over time.

Time Drip is a series of works that explores the symbiotic relationship between time and humanity. The works are divided into two parts, inspired by ancient clepsydra and candle clocks respectively. Modern precise timekeeping often stresses humans, while imprecise timekeeping can briefly make people forget the specificity of time. Exploring ways to alleviate the stresses of everyday life, the work combines ancient timekeeping methods and introduces them to modern life in an attempt to soothe the sensory aspects of modern people’s existential anxieties about the passage of time. As the wearer turns them, the rings become a stress-relieving toy as water is flung through the holes in the woven metal.

The human craft highlights the cumulative growth of mankind over time, and is also a testament to man’s symbiotic evolution with time. Wood, wax and metal are not fast-growing materials, and the making of wood and the weaving of metal tell the story of human growth and accumulation over time. This is a philosophy of life for me, they remind me and the audience not to worry too much about the passage of time, but to learn to find peace and self in the flow of time.
