Tala Khalaf

Jewellery & Metal (MA)

About

My name is Tala Khalaf, and I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Jewellery and Metal. With a prior Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, I am dedicated to the Art of Jewellery Design, where each piece reveals a narrative.

As a Middle Eastern Arab, born and raised in Lebanon specifically, my formative years were marked by resilience and a keen awareness of my surroundings. This has significantly shaped my interest in Political Jewellery and its symbolism, influencing me to create pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and thought-provoking.

In my work, I strive to blend artistry with storytelling, crafting designs that resonate with individual and collective experiences. My passion for Jewellery Design is driven by the exploration of culture, history, and personal expression, resulting in creations that speak to both the wearer and the observer.

Lebanon’s socio-political landscape, with its rich history and enduring challenges, profoundly influenced my creative process. My metal pieces serve as a reflection and response to these circumstances, transforming them into not necessarily wearable but carriable art.

For me, Political Jewellery is a powerful form of expression and commentary. Each piece I design incorporates elements symbolising the repressed yet resilient narratives of my people. By weaving these stories into my creations, I aim to spark conversations and evoke emotions, fostering deeper connections through the intricate tapestry of our shared experiences.

“Bound by a shared history and determined to change our destiny, I recognise the importance of solidarity through alliances in the face of regional economic challenges. With a mutual vision of prosperity, I advocate for establishing a unified currency featuring our collective potential. I introduce to you: The Currency of Arabia. Including Dirham coins and Dinar bills, it connects around four hundred million citizens from twenty-two countries into five regions across two continents, united by a single currency for the first time ever.

The Currency of Arabia denotes a bold and visionary step towards a wealthier and more peaceful united Arab world. Together, we can transform our collective potential into a powerful reality, forming a legacy of unity for all twenty-two Arab countries to thrive. Let us seize this historic prospect and embark on this revolutionary journey towards an economic, social, and political union.”
